Yam Rice Lunch At Bukit Mertajam.

We woke up late last Friday morning and we skipped our morning walk. We had breakfast in a friend's shop in Canning Garden. And later midday, we will be travelling to Penang with our friends.
When our friend heard that we were going to Penang with another couple, she mentioned yam rice in Bukit Mertajam because she knows I love yam rice.
With the help of GPS, we found the shop selling yam rice. We were blessed with a parking space right in front of the shop. This shop is located along Jalan Murthy, Bukit Mertajam.
We have to order directly with the stall owner.
We ordered a bowl of soup with pork slices, pork balls, salted vegetables, etc. minus the entrails.
Chicken eggs and tofu braised in dark soy sauce.
Pork trotter braised in dark soy sauce.
Its been a long time I have not eaten these 2 dishes.
We ordered 4 bowls of yam rice for 4 of us. And they also gave this dipping sauce. The total cost for our lunch for 4 people - MYR 35 (approx. 8.96 USD).
After lunch, we continued on our journey to Penang with the help of GPS.
Thank God, the traffic was not heavy all along the Penang Bridge.
This is the first Penang Bridge. It was opened to the public in 1985. The length of the bridge is 13.5 km (8.4 m).
Passing by the main span of Penang Bridge.
Our purpose of going to Penang was to attend the wake service and funeral of a dear friend.
The rate is MYR 7 for motorist crossing from the mainland to Penang Island. No rate is charged for those from the island crossing over to the mainland.
"Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word
and believes him who sent me has eternal life and
will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
(John 5:24, NIV)

  1. The prices are so very low! Mind boggling -- I realize with everything so low priced people don't need as much to live on, but it is still hard for me to imagine how they can cook that meal and serve it for those prices!!
