Reunion CNY Dinner 2023

I have been missing in action after my last post on the 18th January, 2023 and that is about 4 days. I had to do the last minute spring cleaning because the cleaner woman's daughters were sick and couldn't come. I had to do the last minute shopping plus getting ready some Chinese New Year snacks.

Here is wishing "Happy, Healthy & Prosperous Chinese New Year 2023" to everyone celebrating the Chinese New Year.
Crunchy home fried arrowhead chips or nyaku and imitation crab sticks on the left and toasted cashew nuts.
The above 2 types of Love Letters were bought. On the left is love letters with peanut butter and chopped almond filling.  On the right is love letters with chicken meat floss filling.
~~~~~
The following were all gifts from friends.
Cashew nut cookies and pineapple tarts.
On the left is Almond Florentine and on the right is Seaweed Crisps.
On the top is Chocolate nut cookies, on the left is Chicken biscuits and on the right is Pistachio nuts.
~~~~~
Simple home cooked Reunion Dinner.
Fried Prawns
Roast Duck ordered from a restaurant.
Yee Sang or CNY prosperity toss salad dish ordered from a nearby restaurant.
The vegetables were all hidden underneath the crunchy stuff.
Blanched Ipoh beansprouts with garlic oil, oyster and soy ssauce.
Left over salted vegetable + roasted pig leg soup from lunch.
Reunion dinner 2023.
We had left over roast duck for the next day.
Ushering in the CNY 2023 with this beautiful Adenium flower, a gift from a friend.

Breakfast this morning, Monday 23rd January (2nd day CNY).
Most of the coffee shops in our area are closed for 2 days and only 2 shops are opened and they were overflowing with customers. In the end, we went to a Mamak shop for a relaxed breakfast to avoid the crowd.
I ordered tosai with plain water and hubby ordered roti canai with teh tarik (Forgot to snap photos) Elder son ordered the above roti canai sarang burung with kopi ais. Younger son still sleeping in his room.

  1. A mix and match of home cooked and restaurant bought food is so practical. I did not know that nowadays love letter come with fillings! Must be very addictive. I have heard of roti canai sarang burung and I love those egg yolks!

    1. Elder son brought back a very big fish. For the 4 of us, it will take a long time to finish the whole fish. We got a nearby shop to cut up the frozen fish for us and we will take time to eat the fish. Too many dishes just for the 4 of us, so we didn't cook fish but kept for another day.

  3. Happy second day of CNY. I think those love letters are wonderful, Nancy. I suspect the children prefer the red envekopes stuffed with money.

    That's a great mural. Happy Year of the Water Rabbit.

    1. You are right. For the children they are more interested in the red packets or angpows stuffed with money.
