Fried Rice And Rojak

It rains almost every day and this is one of those rainy days. When it rains, I needn't have to water my plants except those under shade.
My Gardenia plant has started to bloom.
The leaves still wet from the rain.
 First bloom with nice fragrance.
Hubby and I shared this big plate of fried rice for lunch.
After lunch, we went with friend to Pasir Pinji for Chinese rojak (fruit salad). First, take a number and wait for the number to be called.

Craving For Deep Fried Neen Koh Snack, Pasir Pinji, Ipoh.

This was Father's Day weekend. As usual, we went for our walk at the park.
Sunrise at 7:25 am.
The sun was partially blocked by the trees and reflection on the pond.

On Saturday afternoon, I was thinking of deep fried "neen koh" snack. I remembered our friends who too took a liking to this snack and I invited them to join us. Here are some snapshots of our friend who is so sporting to show the smooth, sticky and glooey texture of the "neen koh" snack.
This crunchy snack consists of a piece of glutinious rice sweet cake (kuih), sandwiched between a piece of taro and a piece of sweet potato, dipped into the flour batter and then deep fried.
When fried, the batter is very crunchy and the "neen koh" becomes glooey.
As we take a bite, we have to be careful to avoid the glooey "neen koh" flowing onto our hand.
Our friend is showing you how he eats the "neen koh" snack! Hahahaaa!
Afternoon sky at 4:15 pm
After indulging in the "neen koh" snack, we didn't want any dinner.
We drove to Aeon Big shopping mall to walk off some calories.
There was a food and beverage expo at the mall.
 Cute buns for sale.
 Food stalls outside the mall.
 Stalls inside the mall.
We ended up at a cafe for a cup of drink before driving home. Usually I will be tempted to order their tasty curry puff but this time we just ordered unsweetened black coffee with ice for hubby and a hot lemon tea for me.

The temptations in your life are no different
from what others experience. And God is faithful.
He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand.
When you are tempted,
he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Chee Cheong Fun At Jalan Pasir Pinji 5, Ipoh.

Heard from some of my friends and read reviews on Facebook about this famous steamed flat rice noodle or "chee cheong fun" at Jalan Pasir Pinji 5 but have not tried until now. The reason it took us so long to try this is because we heard that the waiting queue is very long.

One afternoon, our friends suggested that we go and try this famous chee cheong fun and since we have the time, we went with them. We parked the car by the side of the main road and walked a short distance to this house selling the steamed noodle. Many customers were already there waiting. and we were given a number. There were 19 customers ahead of us.
These were some of the customers waiting for their turn. We found a table and chairs to sit and wait. We waited about 45 minutes before our number was called.
We ordered 4 medium size plates (2 plates with sweet sauce and chili sauce and 2 plates without).
Finally, I get to taste this famous chee cheong fun!
Now I understand why so many customers are willing to wait.
This is the best chee cheong fun I have tasted so far.
Price list.
If you want to try, you must be prepared to wait.
Our friend wanted to buy these fried stuffs at the "tai shu keok" or under the big tree. These were from a different stall (not our usual stall).
I couldn't resist taking a snapshot of the car in front of us to show all the stickers.

But he gives us more and more strength to stand against
all such evil longings. As the Scripture says, God gives strength
to the humble but sets himself against the proud and haughty.
So give yourselves humbly to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Enjoying Steamed Dishes For Dinner In Pasir Pinji

One evening we passed by Tai Kung Coffee Shop (behind the Ipoh Tow Boo Keong Temple) which is known for its steamed dishes for dinner. I saw that the steamers beside the coffee shop were all gone and I commented to hubby that they must have shifted elsewhere.

Hubby has the boss' contact number. He call to inquire and was told that they have shifted to a corner shop at the junction where Jalan Pasir Pinji and Jalan Prince meet. Currently, there is no name for the shop and there is also no banner. It is on a slightly higher ground, just opposite the Kafe Happy City and opens in the evening for dinner. One evening, together with a friend, we decided to visit this new place to have our dinner.
We ordered 2 piece of steamed fish drizzled with garlic oil.
Steamed spicy & savoury pork rib with fermented black beans.
Steamed yam with pork belly or kau yoke.
Double steamed watercress with pork rib soup. The above dishes were too much for 3 people so someone has to pack the balance home.

Golden Girls Had Home Style Cooking For Lunch In Pasir Pinji, Ipoh.

It was the last Saturday of August that the golden girls met again and this round, we had something to do in Pasir Puteh. Some of us preferred eating noodles to rice but it was not easy to find tasty noodles during lunch hours. I remembered a friend sharing about a place where they serve both rice and noodles and the place is near to where we were. I am not sure of the exact location, so one of the golden girls showed the way. Even though she passes by this place almost everyday, she has not tried the food yet.

This place is known as "愛回 家 comehome Love Homestay". It is a home converted into a homestay and also served as an eatery. While waiting for the food to be served, a friend and I looked around and we even went up to the rooftop while the other two remained at the table to chat.
A cloudy day.
View from the rooftop. A mixture of the old and new roofs.
The living room converted into a dining hall.
This table behind us which was not occupied.
 Wall decorations
 Wall decorations and stairway railing.
We found these on the rooftop.
Very suitable for holding bbq party in the evening if it doesn't rain.
Or maybe a steamboat or hotpot gathering.
Roof tiles serving as shoes rack.
From the left: Advertising for the home stay and menu on the wall.
We ordered the following dishes to share.
Yummy and flavourful stir fried noodles - single portion.
Delicious seafood noodle in soup
Fish head noodle - the salted veggie was too fibrous and pieces too big to bite.
This was a mistake. Not sure whose mistake but it could possible be ours.  We thought we ordered fish head curry noodle but it turned out to be just fish head curry without the noodle. This curry no oomph because it was too watery.
Sweet dessert - red bean sweet porridge.
Sweet dessert - pumpkin and snow fungus.
Looking forward to return to taste the other home cooked dishes.
Cement bricks as flower pots.
 Concrete pipes serving as fence.

"In that day," says the Lord,
"I will answer the pleading of the sky for clouds,
to pour down water on the earth in answer to its cry for rain.
Then the earth can answer the parched cry of the grain, the grapes,
and the olive trees for moisture and for dew -
and the whole grand chorus shall sing together that
"God sows!' He has given all!
