Enjoying A Hearty And Scrumptious Dinner At Wah Chai Seafood (Menglembu) Sdn Bhd

Last week, my long time friend and ex-colleague called us through the house phone and invited us for dinner on Saturday night. My friend and her hubby wanted to give us and their good friend a treat at Wah Chai Seafood (Menglembu) restaurant. My friends are very busy and they usually worked late on weekdays due to the many business orders. Because of this, they are only free to fellowship and to meet with us on weekends.

On Saturday night, my friend and hubby together with their friend came to pick us up from our house. When we reached the restaurant, we were so blessed to find an empty parking lot waiting for us just right in front of the restaurant. This was a good start to a wonderful and warm evening of good food and fellowship.
My hubby and I have been to this restaurant once only many years ago. This place is famous for its soft shell crabs dish since its beginning.

The boss of the restaurant has expanded his business and has taken over the shop next to it and has air-conditioned the new extension. We were seated in the air-conditioned section. I wonder whether the price of food will be different for those seated in air-conditioned area.
This section is not air-conditioned. The menu or picture of the dishes are posted up on the wall. There are so many of them, one will need a lot of time to really go through all of them. I think the gentleman in yellow shirt is having a difficult time making his choice as he stood there looking at all the tempting delicious dishes on the wall. Frankly, I would have trouble deciding, I would be like wanting to try every single one of them. The following words suddenly came to my mind....When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. And this led to the fall of mankind. If you want to know how this is connected to the fall of mankind, you can read it in Genesis chapter 3 in the Bible.
The first dish brought to the table - Tofu with assorted vegetables and black mushrooms with thickened gravy.
The second dish to arrive - Stir Fried Assorted Vegetables.

Next, Poached Chicken, very moist and tender.

And this plate of Special Ginger Sauce to go with the Poached Chicken. So far this is the best ginger sauce I have tasted. I hope to try and be able to make my homemade ginger sauce something similar to this.
1 kilo Butter Milk Meat Crab. For crabs, the minimum order is 1 kilo. I love this dish. The crab meat was moist and tender. It was very tasty and flavourful.
Finally, the highlight of the evening was a plate of Fried Soft-Shell Crabs to be dipped in the Special Chili Sauce below. This is my first time eating soft-shell crabs. I was curious, so I searched online and from Wikipedia I have learnt that soft-shell crabs are crabs "which have recently molted their old exoskeleton and are still soft. Soft-shells are removed from the water as soon as they molt to prevent any hardening of their shell. This means that almost the entire animal can be eaten, rather than having to shell the animal to reach the meat. The exceptions are the mouthparts, the gills and the abdomen, which must be discarded. The remaining, edible part of the crab is typically deep fried" (quoted from Wikipedia).
We had a very satisfying and enjoyable dinner with delicious food and good fellowship. And I take this opportunity to once again thank our friends for a very hearty and scrumptious dinner. Since we are close friends and I know they won't mind me asking, I asked to find out the cost of dinner.
Cost of dinner MYR 190 (approx. 53.40 USD)

I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.
I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me,
so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting
men may know there is none besides me.
I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form the light and
create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the LORD, do all these things.
(Isaiah 45:5-7, New International Version-NIV)

  2. This looks like a very big place, huge! And the food looks extra fresh! But I could not eat any shells, even if they are soft.

    1. Ginny, you can't feel the shell at all. If you are not told, you wouldn't know the difference.

  7. Dish 1 and 2 are almost similar except for more veges in dish 2 without the tofu. I guess the 1kg crab and soft shell crabs are expensive.
