Cooking Bitter Gourd With Fried Dace + Black Beans

In my area, there are 4 pharmacies. They are close to one another, as close as about 2 to 3 shops away or just across the road. The furthest one is only 200m away. I can easily reach any one of them in 3 minutes if I drive but if I were to walk, it will probably take me about 10 minutes. When the latest or 4th pharmacy opened, hubby and I visited and we came back with some nice free gift.

We each received a gift bag and each bag has the above items.
For every purchase of a certain amount (I can't remember how much), we get a free spin and both of us received the above toothpaste. These 2 tubes of toothpaste will last us for some time.

Back in my garden.
Bitter gourd or bitter melon.
This round the bitter gourd plant was skinny and only produced 3 bitter gourds.
This was the first fruit and the biggest.
I harvested the first fruit and 2 long okras.
For dinner, I cooked the bitter gourd and okra with a tin of fried dace + black beans.
We had some leftover waxed duck from the previous day's dinner.
That evening, we had porridge with the above 2 dishes.

A song to sing on the Lord's Day.
It is good to say thank you to the Lord,
to sing praises to the God who is above all gods.
Every morning tell him, "Thank you for your kindness,"
and every evening rejoice in all his faithfulness.
(Psalm 92:1-2, The Living Bible-TLB)

  8. Thank you Nancy. Goody bags sure will attract people on opening day. Wah, your okra is longer than the bittergourd. Both your dishes go well with plain congee. Any more wax duck in your fridge?

  9. That is wonderful, having pharmacies nearby. And they are quite generous giving out freebies!
Bitter gourd (ampalaya in the Philippines) is a local favorite. Perfect with mung beans, which is always the veggie meal every Fridays.

  13. I wonder why they are all so close together? That would mean there are a lot of neighborhoods that have none at all.
