JAPANESE ROSES OR PORTULACA GRANDIFLORA HYBRID And ITS MEDICINAL USES

Japanese rose or Portulaca Grandiflora Hybrid is very common in Malaysia. It is a spreading, low-growing plant, growing close to the ground.
It can be grown as ground cover, like a grass carpet with its bright, colourful flowers.
It can be grown as borders, to line foot paths or as front liners. It can also be placed in hanging pots or raised up on walls or stands, to show off its attractive flowers.
These plants love the sun and will be in full bloom in the bright morning sun.
In the afternoon to early morning before the sun is up, the flowers will stay closed up as buds. The stems are in reddish or greenish colour.
The leaves are thick, succulent and like thick pine needles. Certain species have broader leaves.
These pictures were taken after a light shower. The water droplets make the flower looks so fresh and pretty.
This is a sweet, lovely pink. Looking at these flowers always bring a smile to my face. So delicate yet so pretty.
I started off with many colours of white, pink, red, orange, yellow, purple, etc. but what is left in my garden now are only yellow, orange and pink.
There are single layered petals and multi-layered petals. The single layered petals are broader than the multi-layered petals. Now I only have the multi-layered petals in my garden.
Medicinal uses
To treat snake and insect bites, burns, scalds and eczema: Crush or pound leaves and stems, extract the juice and apply to the affected area.
For, "All men are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of the LORD stands forever."
And this is the word that was preached to you.
(1 Peter 1:25a, New International Version-NIV)

    1. You are so right. When I do not trim them, they will not bloom well and like you have said...gets messy and will slowly die off.

  8. Nancy. I love Japanese roses! They are pretty and so easy to plant. I used to have a white double-petal Japanese rose. It was so pretty but due to neglect (forgot to water) it died. One day I want to go to the nursery and see if I can buy the same variety again.

    1. I think you will need to replant them. Take the healthy parts of the plants to replant. You will need to feed them fertilizer regularly with regular watering. Plus they love the sunlight.
