Penang Nyonya Kuih & Seafood Porridge At Matang

Before we left Penang, we had one more place to visit. Its the Kuih Culture because we wanted to taste their Nyonya kuih, laksa, cendol and ice kacang.

The banner shows that their business starts at 7 am but when we walked in just before 12 noon, they were not quite ready.
Little Nyonya girl at the shop front.
These were some of the Nyonya kuih available at the counter.
The rest were still being prepared in the kitchen.
Since we were there, we might as well order some kuih to try.
We did enjoying tasting the 4 types of kuih.
We didn't get to taste their laksa and cendol because both items were not ready. Hopefully, we might have a chance to do so on our next trip to Penang.

Nasi Lemak Classic - Nyonya style
Ice kacang
Cendol
Assam Laksa
We couldn't get to taste but can only look at the food on the wall because except for a few variety of kuih, the rest were not ready yet.
Wooden table and chairs.
Granite grinder, pestle and mortar
A coconut scraper
Some of the items for sale.
A painting of an antique food carrier on the wall.

After Kuih Culture, we started our journey to Matang at about 12:20 pm. We stopped at the Lighthouse Seafood Restaurant.
We ordered dried fried fishes (don't know the name).
Oyster omelette.
Seafood rice porridge consisting of fish balls and sharkfish meat (ikan yu).
There were big chunks of fish meat inside the porridge.
Open concept kitchen beside the restaurant.
You can see this cook cooking the seafood porridge.

Lazy people don't even cook the game they catch,
but the diligent make use of everything they find.

  10. Are those stacked teapots? SO pretty, I would buy both of them. I don't know what this is, looks like a cross between cake and gelatin.

    1. I think you are referring to the food or tiffin carriers. The sweet cake or kuih are actually steamed flour cakes.

  25. The kuih portion is much bigger than KL's for that price.

Nice style of pointing out the individual items on the picture. Would be educational for kids too.
