Savouring Some Of Penang's Tastiest Street Food.

Sunday night was the last night we had to savour Penang's street food because we will be leaving for home the next morning. After dinner, it was the Family Night event. Whether participating in the skits or as an audience, enjoyed the fun and laughter.
The event started with an ice-breaker to get everyone onto their feet.
These 6 strong young men were sent out to represent their individual group to see who can last the longest without their body touching the floor. The event ended about 9.30 pm and we were ready to go out for our supper!

Well, should we go to the food court nearest to our hotel or the one further away? We chose to drive to Gurney drive. We got ourselves a table. One sat down and the other three went in different directions. We each came back with different varieties for the group.
Hubby came back with these toasted rolled cuttlefish with chili dippings. The lighting of the open air food court and my camera did not do justice to the food images.
The lightly toasted rolled cuttlefish served in a paper boat.
To eat, just tear off a piece of the cuttlefish, dip into the chili sauce topped with some crushed peanuts, put it into your mouth and started chewing on it........
Bubur Chacha dessert with ice shaving.
Ingredients found in the Bubur Chacha - colourful starch jelly, pieces of taro or yam, sweet potato, black eye beans, coconut milk, sugar, etc.
Ice Kacang with lots of treasures hidden under the ice shaving.
Starting from the top - yellow sweet corn (canned), coconut milk, evaporated milk, sugar syrup on ice shaving, black cincau jelly, green cendol, red beans, just to name a few.
Looks like a very popular fried noodle (char koay teow) stall. My friends wanted fried noodle but she didn't want to join the long queue. Instead, she went to another stall.
She came back with 2 plates of char koay teow after a short while. This tasted good too.
And what did I brought back to the table?
A plate of oyster egg omelette.
Pour the sweet chili sauce over the omelette before tucking in. I like this because it has less starch in it. It had nice big fresh and juicy oysters.
A woman came up to our table selling otak-otak which I like very much and seldom get to enjoy. It was a pleasant surprise because otak-otak was not on my mind. My Father knows what I like even without me asking for it. I happily bought one for myself because the others were not interested.
Otak-otak is a Nyonya dish, a type of fish custard wrapped and steamed in banana leaves. The fish custard consists of a piece of fish meat, flavoured with various aromatic herbs, exotic spices and rich coconut milk. It was such a wonderful, satisfying supper, getting to taste all the delicious food in one night! Since I didn't have enough sleep the previous night, that night I will sleep soundly due to my tiredness and a full stomach.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
(Psalm 4:8, English Standard Version-ESV)
