Steamed Prawns With Raisin Wine For Dinner

A start to a cloudy day. Nice and cool for our morning walk.

Start of morning walk at 7:05am
Sunrise at 7:55am, end of morning walk.
~~~~~
We were supposed to buy breakfast but saw that dine-in is allowed.
It was my turn to order mee jawa. The lady boss is an Indonesian married to a local and can speak very good Cantonese.
Hubby ordered wonton noodle with 2 sui kao.
Wonton noodle served with chicken and mushroom.
~~~~~
Home cooked dinner.
Steamed prawns with ginger strips, red dates, goji berries and home made raisin wine.
Stir fried French beans with dried shrimp. I added an egg, cleared the last one so that I can buy a new batch of eggs.
An old uncle with a cup of white coffee mural in Ipoh old town painted by Ernest Zacharevic. This mural is painted on the side wall of the Old Town White Coffee cafe, in front of Ipoh Padang.

Linking to Monday Mural.

I will give them - in my house,
within my walls - a name far greater than the honor
they would receive from having sons and daughters.
For the name that I will give them is an everlasting one;
it will never disappear.

  1. Ya, we also fry our French beans like that. How come your steamed prawns are not red in colour? Usually, after cooking, they will turn red. We've tried steaming "drunken prawns" before but we were not very successful, not as nice as in the restaurants, dunno where we went wrong.

    The mee jawa and wanton mee both look really good. We have Indonesian helpers here at the noodle stalls - they speak Foochow and Mandarin so well. Put me to shame!!! *face palm*

    1. Surprisingly the prawns didn't turn red. Could it be that I added the wine or did something? But the prawns were very fresh and tasted good. Fyi, I too am ashamed that I can speak my own dialect properly and only knows a few words of Mandarin. Ya, feel so ashamed.

  2. This is the only time so far i have seen pale chicken slices with mushrooms on top of wanton Mee. Must be the unique dish of this stall. Your Mee jawa looks good. Makes me think of the Mee jawa in ss2 chow yang coffee shop. Your prawns dish looks so delicious but I am lazy to peel the prawns shells. Your husband is ok to peel prawns shells? I am curious cos he doesn't like to eat meat off the fish bones.

  3. Would you ever have thought to read the words "dine-in is allowed"?!
    Oh, boy-oh-boy. It´s progress, but...ohhhh....

    Hmmm... ginger! I need to remember to buy some.

  7. I am not sure about steamed prawns. We like them cooked quickly in a little butter so they are soft inside and the shells are crispy. We can then eat the shells as well. Great wall mural.
    Now winter has arrived I hope to keep up more with blogs, sorry summer was a busy time for me with the garden and the kitchen.
    Keep safe Diane
