Home Cooked Tom Yam Prawn Soup & Noodle

The expiry date printed on the tom yam paste bottle in my fridge is almost due, so I need to start using it before it expires. I did a quick check and I found prawns in the freezer. I also found most of the ingredients needed to cook tom yam soup in the house or in the garden.

Ingredients for tom yam soup:
Tom yam paste, galangal, lemon grass, onions, garlic, kaffir leaves, lime juice, chilies, tomatoes, fish sauce, coconut milk, fresh abalone mushrooms, and prawns.
Blanched pre-soaked rice vermicelli.
Appetizing tom yam with prawns + noodle for dinner.
Simple dinner for 2 people.
We had double helpings of the tom yam + noodle.
Kept the remaining tom yam soup for next day's lunch.
~~~~~
Took snapshots of the following critters on our morning walk.
Initially there were 2 hens and 1 rooster on the concrete wall.
As we walked nearer, 1 hen jumped off the wall.
Followed by another hen and left the rooster on the wall. He turned to face us and probably not happy with us for scaring off his girlfriends.
For he himself is our peace,
who has made the two groups one
and has destroyed the barrier,
the dividing wall of hostility.
(Ephesians 2:14, New International Version-NIV)
  14. Very appetising soup and I love the prawns. It is a wonder you both didn't go for triple servings as I may do that. I am amazed that no cats went after the chickens. Do you know which house the chickens belong to?
    1. If I didn't cook the noodles, then we will probably go for triple helpings. I think the rooster is capable at protecting the family from the cats.
    1. Thank you, Rose. The hens flew down from the wall and the rooster was left alone.
  16. For a non-Asian kitchen, that would be a very challenging recipe. In my pantry I have virtually none of the ingredients. And fresh abalone is completely impossible anywhere in the US as it’s been fished out and is protected. Your soup looks wonderful and very exotic.
