Update From My Garden & Dinner With Friends.

These days nothing much is happening in my garden except for some existing edibles that are still growing and bearing fruit. I water the plants every morning except when it rained, and harvest whatever can be harvested. Few days ago, I managed to clear the garden of weeds and now it is much tidier.

This fig plant has just been trimmed and one of the new branches has started to fruit. Can you see the little green fig?

Free lunch from a friend.
When we were having a light breakfast at our regular coffee shop, our friend gave us 2 steamed glutinous rice with chicken and mushroom (loh mai kai).
We brought home the loh mai kai.
We steamed and ate the loh mai kai for lunch.

Dinner with friends at a restaurant.
4 of us sat at a big table with adequate physical distancing.
French beans, crispy fried lotus root, carrot, peanuts coated with salted egg yolk.
Steamed taro with pork belly (woo tau kow yoke).
Deep fried Tilapia with sweet sour assam sauce - very appetizing.
Total cost of dinner for 4 people = RM71.60


Can horses run on rocks? Can oxen plow the sea?

  8. Your fresh fig is so very fresh! All the dishes look so delicious! The lomaikai looks so soft and tasty. Do you still have lomaikai in your fridge?

  12. I have never seen a white eggplant before. Ours are usually very dark purple and pendulous shaped. I get my vegetables delivered every week from a local company. The aubergine (eggplant) was huge like a football and pale pink. I have never seen any like that either. I was glad that I only ordered one instead of my usual three!

    1. It is interesting that we have different types of eggplants in our part of the world. It is amazing to find aubergine as huge as a football and pale pink.

  16. The carrot plants will grow a carrot underneath? Or the leaf can be eaten?

    The salted-egg veg dish and fish look so yummy.

    1. Yes, a carrot will be found underneath the plant just like daikon. I googled and it seems the leaves are edible but I have not tried.
