Dinner On A Rainy Night

It rained last night on and off. This morning there was a light drizzle, so there was no morning walk.

Morning sky at 7:45am
~~~~~
Breakfast in our area.
I ordered pork with daikon soup noodle. It tastes something like beef  with daikon soup noodle, substituting beef with pork. No photo of hubby's breakfast, he ordered wan tan hor.
Cucumber plants in my garden.
~~~~~
Dinner in hubby's hometown Gopeng.
We went to one of the restaurants in Lawan Kuda.
There were six of us to a big table.
Fried pork belly slices with fried garlic with skin.
This was the second time we ordered this dish but it was not as good as the first time. Taste wise, it was okay but the pork belly slices were not crispy as before.
We ordered snakehead fish (san yu) and the meat slices used to cook "kam heong" style. From the above portion, I guessed the fish was not a big one.
The bony part of the fish cooked in herbal and rice wine soup.
Water spinach or kangkong cooked in shrimp paste. Of all the dishes, this was the only dish that was the right portion for 6 people
Deep fried squid.
This looks like a small portion for 2 or 3 people.
We have been here a few times and were never disappointed except this one time. It is obvious that prices of food have definitely increased.

For the Scriptures tell us that no one who believes in Christ
will ever be disappointed.

  4. I love that daikon soup with beef - they have that at a Korean restaurant here, galbi tang, RM45 a claypot, so so so expensive but worth it as it's so so so nice!

    Aiyor!!! So kesian the squid. They should use a smaller plate, will not look so pathetic.

    The prices of everything have been going up - we'll just have to live with it. As long as we are ok, healthy and able and can afford, be thankful that we are blessed!

  5. Oh. I never saw a cucumber plant!
    Oh. I think pork belly is nothing for me. Though I admit, I´d love the crispy part! We have .. .what do you call it... chips? called pork belly and I love those.
    Squid. Oh. Another day I´d go hungry, LOL, as often in hospital. I do know it´s healthy. Darn genes!
    Sad you left disappointed. And yes, prices rise. Which keeps people at home!

  6. It rained very heavily over here yesterday. The fried squid does look like a very small portion especially served in the big plate.

    1. No, for the time being. There are a few other restaurants that we can go to.

  8. The taste, quantity, and price of foods are too unfair after the covid. And the weather seems to be similar here and there, but we are receiving heavy rains from Saturday night, and tonight it could be another downpour!

  10. I love to eat kangkong in sambal sauces very much. My neighbourhood fish soup stall also giving lesser and lesser fish slices in their fish soup nowadays, I complained and they say the prices of fish are getting expensive

  11. I used to grow cucumbers when I was a kid. It was so easy to plant with minimal care and we had abundance of cucumbers.

    I remember this Lawan Kuda village as I ate dinner there several times with my politician boss. The food at the restaurants there were cheap and tasty,

    1. Actually, even with the price hike the charge is still lower than other places. There are a few other restaurants worth visiting. I hope I will also enjoy good cucumber harvest.

  13. Squid delicious but that dish would be just for me. Eat a lot when it comes to squid, shrimp or octopus. Thanks Nancy.

  16. It is disappointing when a meal doesn't come up to expectations. I used to grow cucumbers in my greenhouse but haven't for a few years. I think I may start again.

  17. I love to eat daikon boiled in soup but seldom with pork, more with beef. Perhaps they think you all won't be able to finish all the food so gave you all the small portion of squid. Is the pork belly slices supposed to be crispy for that pork belly Garlic dish? May you get loads of cucumber from that growing plant.

    1. Thank you, Mun. The pork belly slices is supposed to be thin and crispy fried.

  19. I've noticed the rise in price in our eateries too. This will certainly make us more selective when eating out.
    The morning sky picture is amazing!

  20. So prices went up and portions down. They should just pick one direction.

    1. Surprisingly, there are some who choose to keep their price the same and yet they can survive. Customers will accept if the increase is a small hike.
