Steamed Chicken Leg With Gojiberries & Tong Kwai

It was raining for the last 2 days and nights. We felt like we were up in the highlands because the weather was so nice and cool that we didn't even needed to switch on the fan to sleep. The sad thing is that there were terrible flooding in many places and many have to be evacuated. There were so much damage caused by the flood.

We haven't been out for morning walk because of the rain for 3 mornings. The following sky photos were taken before the rain started. It was a cloudy day.

Kledang Hill partially covered by morning mist.
Morning sky at 7:30am.
Morning sky at 7:49am.
Morning sky at 7:52am.

From my garden.
One of my home grown green brinjal, almost 1 foot long.
This photo was taken on a clear day. Still keeping watch over the bananas for the right time to harvest the bunch of bananas. Notice the torn banana leaves? The birds have been stripping off the leaves to build their nest.

Simple home cooked (no rice) dinner for 2.
Steamed chicken leg with ginger strips, goji berries and few slices of tong kwai (Chinese herb).
Blanched baby pak choy, drizzled with garlic oil, oyster and soy sauce.
Mural of a man drinking coffee at Antong Coffee Mill in Taiping.
I took this snapshot in August, 2020. We were on our way home from our holiday in Penang and we decided to stop for a visit our friends.

Linking to Monday Mural.

    1. I have no idea why. I only use a few slices in this recipe just to add fragrance to the dish. The bananas look big but they are actually tiny.

  5. I had my morning walk today. Better weather today. Been raining over the weekend so did not go for morning walk. Steamed chicken is nice to eat but my kids don't like it. So seldom make at home.

    1. True, young kids do not like steamed dishes, they prefer fried. But steamed is healthier for elderlies.

  6. It is misty in kl too. Very cold. I miss the sun. Wow! That brinjal is so long. Hope you get to harvest the banana at the right time. Do you know what kind of birds take the banana leaves to build their nests?

  16. The dried banana leaves are very suitable to serve as nests. In regions close to the coasts, of the Gulf of Mexico, people often use this type of leaves to make nests for poultry

  23. Such a long brinjal. How do you know when it's ready to harvest?

Wonder if baby bak choy is also what they call 'nai pak'.

    1. I too am not very sure but if the brinjal feels soft when I squeezed it lightly, then it is nice and tender. If it is a bit hard, then it is old with hardened seeds. I prefer to harvest them earlier before the seeds hardened.
