Lobak & Satay For Lunch And Home Cooked Dinner.

It was peak lunch hours and finding a parking place in Ipoh old town at this time is almost impossible.  We drove 3 rounds before we could get a parking place and we walked to the shop where hubby needed to pick up something. After that, we walked to a coffee shop at Jalan Bandar Timah. Hubby likes to eat the Lobak at Kafe Zun Seng Fatt (next to Restoran Thean Chun), Ipoh. This lobak and chicken rice stall was formerly operating in Restoran Thean Chun before it shifted to its current place.
What's For Lunch
A plate of Lobak - meat rolls, prawn fritters and fish cake.
Lobak with chili sauce for dipping.
We also ordered some chicken satay from next door shop. Spicy peanut sauce for dipping.
Sweet dessert - Water chestnuts with egg white.
Looks like someone made a straight horizontal cut on the side of this limestone hill.

Our Home Cooked Dinner
Free range chicken (half) cooked with sliced and blended ginger, home grown spring onions and bird's eye chilis. I added some black soy sauce and oyster sauce.
Home grown spiky bitter gourds - deep fried Indian style. Before deep frying, I tossed the bitter gourd slices with curry powder, salt and rice flour to coat them evenly.
Homegrown okra or ladies fingers - blanched.
We had steamed rice with the above dishes.
A sunset shot at about 7.05 pm.

  1. Your home cooked dinner looks much better than all the rest! Wonder why someone would do that to the limestone? The little costume replicas are so cute! Were they for sale?

    1. Thank you, Ginny. I don't know whether it is a man made cut or a natural one. The costume replicas are kept on display, I don't think they are for sale.

  11. Yum, yum, yum Nancy but explain to me what a Lobak is and spiky bitter gourds. I've never heard a these two things. The chicken dinner looks tasty. The miniature lion dance costumes were cute. How large are big ones?

    1. Thank you, Paul. Lobak is a kind of meat rolls where the meat is marinated with 5 spices, rolled with bean curd sheet and then deep fried. Spiky bitter gourd is a kind of Indian bitter gourd and the body of the gourds are kind of spiky. The normal size lion dance costume will be able to hold 2 adults. One person holding the head and the other acting as the back of the lion. Have a wonderful day!

  27. What a gorgeous sunset! And the little lions are so lovely with all the details. I'm sure it took a lot of time and effort to make them. The limestone shot reminds me of the scenery along many of New Zealand's roads.
