Kopisan Lai Fun, Stewed Salted Black Bean Fish + Rice Porridge

We woke up early on this particular morning. As we stepped out of the gate, we were greeted with a lovely pink sunrise.

After our morning walk, we drove out to town to buy breakfast. Hubby wanted Kopisan Lai Fun (rice noodle) and the "yong tau foo" or "liew" as we locals call it.
Noodle and liew placed separately from the soup.
With the clear soup added to the noodle.
The best way to enjoy the noodle is to add the chili sauce to the soup.

It acts as a beautiful striking landmark.

Dinner
My neighbour ordered stewed salted black bean fish head for us.
A flavourful dish to go with rice or porridge.
Salted egg for hubby because he is not a fan of fish head
I ended up eating most of the fish head.
Opened a can of pickled lettuce.
Satisfying dinner on a hot evening.
Mural on the wall surrounding a Chinese school.
This year, many of us miss our family reunion dinner. Looking forward to enjoy a meal together with family members and friends.

  4. Don't think I've tried Kopisan Lai Fun before but I do enjoy yong tofu! They sell freshly cooked salted black bean fish at our neighbourhood shop - I had the canned ones before with porridge. Maybe one of these days, I'll buy a pack and try. The pickled lettuce is great for steaming chicken. Let me see if I can find my long ago post on it!

    3. Thanks for the link to the post. I will definitely want to try your recipe because I am into simple and quick recipes. Thinking of it also makes me drool. I also like the way you fry the bitter gourd using Chinese sausage and egg. This also I must try because I have not combine bitter gourd and sausage before. Have a wonderful weekend.

  7. I want to eat the ching noodles soup but not Lai fun but with Mee hoon. Congee with salted eggs are the best. So easy to eat and so tasty. Your Bauhinia Kockiana is beautiful! Do you need to prune it often?

  19. The salted black bean fish tastes like those canned ones? That is a big bowl of it though. A can doesn't contain much.
